The name Antwerp is said to be a corruption of the word "hand throwing". According to legend, the giant Druoon Antigoon would take a heavy toll on every skipper who passed on the Scheldt. If they refused to pay, the giant mercilessly chopped off a hand. The brave Roman soldier Silvius Brabo went to war and killed the giant. Then he chopped off his huge hand and threw it into the Scheldt (hand throwing). In this way, the hand became the symbol of Antwerp and, years later, a source of inspiration for the creation of the most famous delicacy of the Scheldt city.
